This movie spits in the face of the current cinematic world where films are increasing safe, predictable, formulaic, and digestible to a wide audience. It doesn't give a damn if any theme, scene, or character is relatable or even likeable. That sounds bad when written out, but in truth it's so well done it gives the film a feeling of brutal honesty. An honesty, that based on lots of audience reviews, is to much for most people, which I can genuinely understand. I've always loved history and thought on how different cultures far removed from ours would completely shock people. So films set in the past always have to dial things down. From what I've read after viewing the film, this is a well researched and authentic look at Norse culture and more importantly what their own heroes and stories should look like. If these guys were still around and wanted to make a film about themselves it would basically be this. One of my new favorite movies of all time.
