I bought this, although I'm a bit tired of Westerns, because I'm a great fan of Vincent D'Onofrio. I was not disappointed. Another case of the professional critics missing something. It is not a film that treads old pathways in a dull way, it is genuinely fresh. Ethan Hawke is superb as is Dane Dehaan as 'The Kid'. All the other actors are great too. It has been criticised for its 'old-fashion' portrayal of female characters, accused of making the male characters the main actants of narrative, but this is unfair - the story is about good men struggling to save an abused woman. A very powerful film - highly recommended.

Disney executives should be sacked. First they backed the wrong horse by pulling Nutcracker from the Christmas schedules, and putting their weight behind 'Mary Poppins Returns' . Prior to this they ordered about six weeks of re-shoots and cut a lot of stuff out. I'm sure we would have seen far more of THE FOUR REALMS and less of the overacted Sugar Plumb Fairy. This could have been a classic - but it was hobbled. And yes, in spite of this messing around, the film is still enchanting. Everyone I've shown it to, old and young, male and female, has loved it. Were the re-shoots a result of PC? Now we have 'Dumbo', which, according to the critics, is also hobbled by PC. I've always hated live animal acts in circuses - or anywhere, actually, and I don't want this message shoved down my throat. These are the PC people who sacked James Gunn from 'Guardians of the Galaxy 3'. Again, James's old tweets were in poor taste, but god, what an over-reaction to something written so long ago.
