It has it's quirks but definitely an epic to remember in my book.
Sure, I too get lost on the day 1 edition. I decided to replay it and bought the Royal edition. Best decision I ever made - it became my favorite FF game.
Royal edition made it feel far more complete than day 1 edition. Even if the last 3 DLCs got cancelled, the prior releases are good enough for me to make the journey even more memorable.
Watch the movie and the shorts too- these will enrich the experience and give you a better view of the lore.
