An incredibly poignant post WWII romantic drama with all the urgency of unexpected love conflicted by existing marriages and family. The conflicts of moral dilemma wrestling with newly discovered urges is handled well, Director David Lean getting wonderful performances by the two lead characters. This is a remarkable mid twentieth century film, kudos all around; script, cinematic direction, acting, it’s wonderful.

Can’t rate what I didn’t watch, but that’s partly due to NBC promising 55 minutes of personality dives, 5 minutes of actual competition. NBC treats Olympics like the View might?

The spare Hemingway like language makes this family saga both approachable and intimately unambiguous. A joy to read, the author makes you forget a woman is crafting a mans narrative, deftly jumping back and forth between plausible dialogue from both genders.
It’s the unpretentiousness that bowled me over, no gymnastic sentence development, or obtuse vocabulary, just empathy and terrific character development. Wonderful.
