Does not just retread existing Star Trek world. The episode last night had them going to a planet that looked like something out of Blade Runner 2049 or Cool World. It brought in a character from another Star Trek series the Pickard was not on. The series add complexity to the galaxy that star trek plays in. It is also not as clean and sanitized as the earlier iterations,while keeping the ideals from the older series through the character of Picard.
