Before I talk about the movie, I have to talk about the director's transition into handling and making huge star movies. I feel like H.Vinoth wanted to make a fan service instead of adding his own touch to it. Of course, I agree that Ajith Kumar's movies have to contain some amount of commercial elements like mass dialogue delivery, emotional melodramas etc. Here in Valimai, it feels like the whole emotional drama is not resonating with the hollywood style thriller-esque film. Firstly, the movie came after long waiting 3 years and it gave a decent comeback for Ajith Kumar. The bike stunt action sequences were greatly done particularly the choreography. The team have made an effort to deliver the experience without making it over the top action. Although the story is nothing new but cat-and-mouse game between good and evil. and how the good brings evil to justice. Now here's where the things go even more cliche. Where the director tries to bring in more melodrama of Mother and Son emotion to the screenplay to make the protagonist has a meaningful purpose to both save the city and family at the same time, but this feels flat and it is really hard to empathize and connect with the subject which is not resonating with the screenplay Good thing is that there was no romantic portion. Overall, the director has done great fan service to Thala fans and it is indeed once-watchable for its bike stunt actions. The story is clearly predictable where it can make you think and keep guessing who is the traitor and how the hero is gonna tackle his problems including so-called twists.
