Like many other reviews, I feel that the story was a quick read and entertaining enough to keep me BUT I was underwhelmed with the writing and the fact that the story wasn’t as fleshed out as it could have been. I can assume the “late night visitor” was Bob after the fact, fine and that their tense relationship wasn’t as tense as written. However, Sara mentioned her daughter was 8 years old and Adam was jailed for 11 years plus there was an allusion to the idea of Sara being pregnant when she became ill during court. Was this for the reader to assume there was a possible baby in the mix only to later assume again that this was a manipulation by Sara to throw off her husband? Even so, her husband didn’t pick up on this as he was more worried about her not being prepped or stable for court so I have to assume this was for the readers’ POV only. The ending wasn’t shocking because Sara wasn’t looked at negatively once, not even by her husband and that’s what sealed the deal for me that it was her. It only reinforced the notion when Ann and Bob were implicated. I kept reading because I hoped that it wouldn’t be as obvious. The real Sara (provided to us in the last 15 minutes of reading) vs the mind of Sara was disjointed and the ending was a letdown even after predicting it. This isn’t a terrible book but I think it’d be more for the young adults that may not pay attention to detail. 3/5 because it’s still a page turner and I would like to see more from J. Rose.
