Absolute garbage. They wasted every opportunity on their weak and honestly uninteresting characters. I was especially angered about how the movie treated Finn as a character. Until now we had Black characters like Lando, Mace Windu, and some other smaller characters from the shows but we didn't have an explicitly young character for Black kids to look up to or visualize. They could have done so much to expand upon a rich or gritty backstory. Like as a Black stormtrooper who has seen like so many battles and eventually broke through the brainwashing they supposedly have hammered into their heads since they were stolen from birth. That certainly would have been more convincing and compelling than what we got. How do you go from being a scared rookie to literally a few minutes later shooting all your fellow stormtroopers with no concern. (Bear in mind the trigger for his defection was the death of another stormtrooper in the opening scene) Yet another pointless diversity checkbox character who has been reduced to being a lapdog/sidekick for the white main character, saying a couple one liners, posing for trailer shots, and all the cliche's we've seen out of virtually every Black character in modern cinema. The rest of the characters are similarly disappointing or completely pointless like Phasma. Don't even waste the five dollars it costs on the Walmart movie discount box. It is not worth it.

Look up Chekov's Gun and wrap it all up in bright shiny visuals that is this movie in a nutshell. It will try to wow you with its visuals so you don't worry about the pretentious and honestly lacking story. If that is your thing go ahead I mean it's not as bad as the force awakens so I guess that's something.
