This movie is downright beautiful. Let me tell you something, as a comic book and huge film and art fan, I was worried because Ledger had set the bar incredibly high. But you know what Joaquin did to that bar? He ripped it out of the wall and walked right through. His portrayal of the Joker is so perfect, you actually really feel for him. Unlike in Dark Knight where you know he's a "Raw Force of Evil", Phoenix's portrayal is not a clown prince of crime, but a sweet man who has tried to connect to society, who has tried to love, tried to make friends, tried to get help, tried to be normal. You know what happened? Nobody gave him any of that. So, at the very end when he's full Joker, it's great because the whole movie he's tortured both mentally and especially physically. And in the very end, you see in his look, in his eyes, he finally belongs. He finally has a group of people that care about him. He's started a new movement. At the very end, he is the Joker that we all know and love, but it's not a sudden change. It's multiple small changes. And when he finally takes revenge on those people that hurt him, it's honestly great.
Immeasurable, this movie doesn't belong on a scale.
