Excellent script, well paced, good characterization, so far so good (after two episodes).

Incredibly melodramatic and over-acted. All that shouting at each other! What an abuse of Christian Bales' talent. The actor (Melling)who played E A Poe though was suitably creepy but also overacting in parts. Blame the director who must get his inspiration from silent movie melodramas. All those enigmatic facial expressions before closing a scene! All those dramatic....pauses....in even the shortest of....lines! The best part was the plot twist in the last 10 minutes. The cinematography was excellent though, but that alone does not make a good movie.
