It was GREAT!! A problem minimal to some people, can be HUGE for many. Started from a simple problem of a poor boy losing his sister's shoes, it took me to another world of emotions.

BRILLIANT piece of work. I had the Criterion print, hence I watched twice, once the whole movie..... second time with commentary audio.

The best courtroom drama ever to me, at least in the recent times.

Thanks to this movie, now I am sad whenever I visit a tea estate.

Was very skeptical on watching this. Because, you knoe I am from India and everyone knows what kind of family drama soap we have. But I was somewhat in a dilemma as the movie forums and discussions were all praise about this. And man was I thankful to them. This drama, along with Quratulain Balouch's title track kept me in its awe for days!!

"আমায় তো বাদ দিলেন। কিন্তু আমি বাদ গেলাম কই?" "You left me. But how was I left out?" This dialog of the movie sums it up. On one hand, the middle class বাংলা or Bengal and bengalees, on the other hand, the life of the child actor of a legendary character in parallel with the life of the character itself. The similarity, maybe, was a coincidence, or Bibhutibhushan (wrote) and Ray really created a piece which was the story of every middle class bengali in one or the other way. A movie worth watching again and again, especially for an Apu Trilogy fan.

Unnecessarily emotional events. Climax was totally unfitting, it was like things would have been the same if the said climax did not occur.

I still regret watching this.... And I still wonder why it was made......
