Best Beatles Album Ever? 🤔
️⃣ I am 100% sure this is their best produced album and most sophisticated sonically. With their use of 8 track recording, there wasn't anything stopping The Beatles from continuing to expand their forays into sound experimentation. Coupled with George Martin's exquisite score and production, and there is no doubt the album continues to sound crisp 50 years later.
️⃣ Lyrically, it continues to be whimsical in the style of earlier Beatles fare, but in my opinion, the whimsy is mixed with a bittersweet element. Underneath the whimsy there are twinges of sadness. I feel the album gives its listeners an autumnal feel; it's beautiful but you also know the beauty won't last forever and winter did indeed set for the Beatles -- permanently.
️⃣ My personal favorite is still Rubber Soul, but I do believe Abbey Road "wins" as Best Beatles Album ever because it's a perfectly balanced and immaculately produced album. Kudos to George Martin and his work on Side 2 Medley.
️⃣ It's mostly Paul dominated, but George and John -- even Ringo -- come in to give some of their best songs ever written and a moment of brief respite from Paul. I'm a huge Paul fan, but I acknowledge the album lacks a little more effort from John -- and George, of course, is relegated to only 2 tracks. No wonder he was mad. 😨
️⃣ This should technically be your last Beatles album, and I feel listening to this first without the context of their previous efforts and without the context of seeing their growth will take away that feeling of awe and spirituality that one gets only after having listened to everything from Please Please Me onwards. How can you appreciate Abbey Road without first having listened to Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper, and the White Album? You can't.
