I think they blew it! Could of been a truly amazing movie esp with Kendrick…
It should of been, but again it feels like there’s just a lack of maturity in the writing and production and a total lack of continuity… ie the scene with the woman from the audience seems so forced and as they devoted so much time to multiple scene’s, but it doesn’t fit and makes no sense?? They have her acting like she survived an attack from Ocala, but you find out later that nothing ever happened to her! There was a point to make in that Ocala went on killing because people didn’t listen to people like her, but you’d never understand that was her role until well after the movie was over and you knew more about Ocala’s crimes.
I feel because the producer’s and director just did not know or understand Ocala’s history well enough to make those scenes work.
But then it does make sense if you take a step back and look at much of what’s been made after 2020, there’s so much forced identity politics rammed into everything. It’s more important that the token POC actress gets the scene deserving of their identity status; Anna Kendrick can’t have it all, that would be racist!
I think because we’re in the midst of this insane cultural trend of forcing diversity into every crack and crevice and that we’re being told that representation is so much more important that quality in film, things like this movie have paid the price for it!
It feels like I’m expected to understand the metal shorthand (the scene I’m questioning) of these young phenomenally talented (in their own minds) writers, directors and casting agents that they’re playing their social justice role by including these scenes and that I’m expected to understand and champion these things that really only make sense to them? And if I criticize this in any way, I’m a, you know what.
