Sadly a duff novel. It starts well but then tails off into some recondite plot about the machinations of a repressive civilisation subsequent to our own. It fails to hold the readers attention, or mine at least. The author presumably had some deep profound message to relate to us, but whatever it was lost in the telling

Episodic tales of the spying craft. Some tales interesting some not. The last of which is a longwinded exposition of getting an accused spy to admit his guilt. Not the most enthralling of stories. However the book is well written, as usual by Le Carre, but lacks a compelling narrative in my opinion.
