It's nothing compared to the novels. Plots are modified, looks are modified (Lynley is a blond in the books), and the directing, as well as the music, give in to the melodramatic. It's still entertaining, albeit annoying on occasion, and if there is a main reason to watch, it's Small's Havers, as well as her relationship with Lynley, more intimate in than the one he has with Helen, a character as superficial here as she is in Elisabeth George's mysteries.
