Incredibly derivative.
Needed to be trimmed by 40 minutes or so. So much unnecessary story and characters.
Needed better effects. Put people in real costumes instead of composing them via what seems like blender. Prabhas's CG suit looks obviously fake too often.
This movie has completely arbitrary powers for Amitabh and Prabhas. A lot of the Prabhas's comedy falls flat.
Production design is decent but not mind blowing. A star for effort though.
Needed less slow-mo. (True for all Indian action movies. Why this is, who knows.)
Needed fewer but more fleshed-out characters and more well defined rules for the weapons used. The power weapons have is directly proportional to how deep a hole Prabhas is in.
Also, please stop casting Kamal Haasan in action parts. He can't plausibly do anything strenuous. He's simply too old. Likewise for Amitabh. Give them meaty monologues and keep them away from implausible physical activity.
This film fails the Bechdel test ofcourse. No fleshed out women characters. Deepika is flatly written action girl again, but atleast in XXX:3 the surrounding plot was funny and not needlessly complicated and ludicrous.
It takes more than marrying a producers daughter to be an action director. Nag Ashwin's biggest problem is that he doesn't realise he isn't Rajamouli. (Speaking of whom ...)
Music is fine, nothing special. Disha Patani provides some oomph and then disappears. Cameos and inside jokes abound.
A second star for ambition. But not more than that.
