So I listened to the new Roger Waters album Dark side of the Moon redux. I would argue Dark side of the Moon is Pink Floyd's most complete album. Just a near perfect listening experience from beginning to end. Of course Roger Waters arguably was the mind of Pink Floyd. Can't take away his skills as a lyricist.
However, I've never been a fan of his solo work. I have to say his reimagining of Dark Side of the Moon just doesn't do it for me. Roger Waters turned most of the album into endless monologues and spoken word versions with just enough Pink Floyd melodies to remind you of the original. Overall, this felt like a record that just did not need to be made.
At times I understand what Roger Waters was trying to accomplish. However, the entire time I couldn't help but get agitated at so many unnecessary changes. Anyone who knows the background behind the scenes of Pink Floyd knows Roger Waters may be one of the biggest tools in music history. An absolute narcissist with a god complex to boot. I really can't think of a single person who was asking for this album. Besides Roger Waters of course wanting everyone to know how much Pink Floyd would not exist without him.
Definitely worth a listen for the hardcore Floyd fans. Otherwise, I don't see this appealing to anyone else.
