I read the reviews and we decided to watch it anyways. Our expectations were low and we were pleasantly surprised! It’s a great stand-alone family Christmas movie! Obviously it’s not Home Alone 1 or 2, but it’s way better than the third movie. Definitely would recommend!

I wanted to love this movie, but there were a couple issues that just kept it from reaching the greatness of the original: 1) To Be Cont: Obviously the worst part is the cliff hanger. For a 160 min runtime the movie deserved a big villain and battle (running from a bunch of spidermen doesn’t count). 2) Too many “Easter Eggs” and not enough story: the best part of Easter eggs is the subtleness. Having 2 hours of inside jokes and humor gets old especially when none of it is furthering the plot. Just scale back and focus on the beauty of the story. 3) Music took a big step back: the first movie had like 10 huge hits by various artists. With Metro Boomin doing the heavy lifting, all the songs meld together and nothing really stands out as a major hit. Also it felt like the songs were incorporated in the movie better in the first movie which helped with their success. Hopefully they fix some of this in the third movie

Multiverse gimmicks can’t keep carrying the franchise. Weak, incoherent plot, with no character development. If you want a couple cameos and some cool CGI fight scenes without any story, humor, or depth than this is probably a good movie for you. Otherwise, I’d steer clear.
