Brady Lange – Google

Disclaimer: I didn’t play the game, I watched PewDiePie play it on YouTube. I also want to note that I skimmed past much of the stealth/fight areas half-way into the game as they were repetitive and tedious. I definitely thought the game had great aspects to it in graphics (facial expressions, environment), AI was better at covering areas and not destined to a strict path, unique/controversial story structuring, being progressive with their characters, etc. Although, I will say I was not as invested as I was in the first game. Even though the story may have been thought of as poor by many, there were some deep and unique bits to it. (SPOILER) For example, Ellie realized at the end that she didn’t want to take away Lev’s parent figure like hers was taken away with Joel.. (END SPOILER) I will say though, that it was extremely dark and had little fulfilling aspects to it... This is fine, it was a unique way to go about a story which was far more depressing than happy, and had a lot of death, agony, and revenge. To add on, the story was awkward at times and didn’t give you a choice in your actions which I thought was ridiculous and they might have as well created a movie at that point. I can tell a lot of work has gone into the game, but in my opinion, it didn’t live up to the hype of the first game which is also fine. Another huge point is the game failed to inspire and innovate the zombie genre which was disappointing. We’ve seen many of these types of groups and features before like the bald scary cult (Days Gone). Many areas in the game seemed to be ‘copy and paste’ ideas from previous great zombie games. The game also was repetitive at times. I could tell Felix was getting bored and just wanted to finish the game many times throughout it (I didn’t blame him). I would also say some of the character dynamics were a bit strange and lacked chemistry (or authentic chemistry). The ending of the game was weak and not thorough which is extremely disappointing considering I think everyone was looking forward to these bits of the game considering Joel was a huge character and he didn’t appear much in it! Furthermore, this game has left me with many questions. (SPOILER) Who were the people that captured Abby and Lev? What ever happened with Abby and Lev at the end? Were there actual Fireflies left? Where did Dina go at the end? Where did Ellie go at the end? (END SPOILER) I have many unanswered questions that can hopefully be answered with a quick Google search! Obviously, I have given harsh feedback and I’m sure many others have as well, but that should not take away from how well done certain aspects of the game were! To be quite honest, I was expecting much more harsh ratings on this game! Overall, I would like to think I’d entertain another game in this series (maybe a Part III?), but from the let down I felt from Part II has me in doubt. Posted: Around the end of the year 2020?
