This film sucks so bad, I really highly dislike it. Not only does this ruin the vision Richard Williams had in mind by him getting kicked out of his own passion project, it also ruins the films base idea. It’s terribly edited, the re-cast sucks, and the bland, boring, and overall pointless and stupid musical numbers. But the one thing that messed it up the most is that they made all the characters blabber so much. If you don’t know, what Richard Williams had in mind was to make two characters silent, Tack the Cobbler and The Thief. Here they just blabber non-stop. Sure it doesn’t seem bad having Matthew Broderick and Jonathan Winters have their personality, but then it gets really dreadful. I have to mention also the movies length being only 1 hour and 12 minutes compared to the original work print by Richard Williams being 1 hour and 37 minutes! Which in total, they had to cut out 25 minutes of animation out of the film. The reason why this is a 2 star and not a 1 star is because of the animation. Richard Williams had to go through 24 frames per second at animation rate and that is incredible. Some scenes like the chase scene with Tack and the Thief look very cool! BUT THEN YOU HAVE TACK AND THE THIEF BLABBERING IN STUFF TO MAKE THE EXPERIENCE WORSE. Also I do have to mention the animation did get a decrease with Fred Calvert. It now ranges I think around 12 frames per second making it very inconsistent. Overall this film has a poorly executed story, dreadful characters, and outrageous musical numbers. And it tries to make up with the animation but oh wait! Flipping Matthew Broderick and Jonathan Winters have to blabber their way through. What a painful experience.
