It never ceases to amaze me, the talent of some actors to absolutely become the person they are portraying. And none as much as Steve Coogan’s performance here. He must have studied Saville’s behaviour, manner, quirks and expression relentlessly to be able to achieve such accurate portrayal.
I found this drama subtle but deeply disturbing. I remember seeing Saville on TOTP and Jim’ll Fix It as a child and just seeing this “Uncle” figure, who seemed to be everywhere all of the time. The courage and dignity with which the victims who appeared is so incredibly moving, the extent of his crimes are sickening. To think that he simply got away with such heinous behaviour his whole life… there are no words.
Fabulous cast, such fantastic talent and truly touching, this tragic tale is simply haunting.
