I thought this movie shined above all others from the past 5 years. And yes, the Atomic Bomb was necessary, because 1. The Nazis were getting close to developing one of their own, and imagine the world today, if they had beaten us to it, and 2. The only way to get Japan to surrender was to devastate the country, either by a full on invasion (with many more lives lost, including our GI's who had suffered enough) or a super weapon. To me the choice was clear. As for the everlasting effects of the bomb, it would have been developed eventually in any event. And aren't you glad the USA had it first?
