SPOILERS*****
For sure a Scorsese-esque style of Good Fellas which is my all time favorite movie, but funny enough it was the narrator, who reminded me of why I can't stand Gangs of New York, who put the nail in the coffin for me with this ho-hum film. Like Cameron Diaz's nail on a chalk board accent throughout Gangs, Kathy's dreadful accent was so annoying that I wanted to walk out. No one else in the entire movie had this accent (thank God), so why did the director think this was the way to go for her? At least she is pretty to look at.
I don't want to spend much more time on her, but the chemistry between Kathy and Benny was non-existent. For a guy who stands outside of a girls house all night and the following day until she breaks and goes out to meet him, which could be romantic, or stalkerish, however you want to view it, the effort fell so flat. It evoked zero emotion which carried the entire way through the film between the two.
The bromance between Benny and Tommy was good, but not heartfelt, mainly because of Butler just looking pretty the entire film and, oh yeah, mute. Hardy did his duty, per usual, he's such an excellent actor, but he can't carry this entire film.
Oh, and the over exaggeration of some of the bikers teeth. Give me a break, so distracting. Speaking of distracting and teeth, they gave Dixon who played Funny Sonny the worst fake teeth that he almost spoke with a lisp. Terrible decision. You can give an actor gritty looking teeth without putting in dentures that effs with their speech.
Loved the cinematography, location sets and clothing. Dang, missed the opportunity to have music from the 60's and 70's playing.
I really, really wanted to love it. The thought of how great this could be made me go to the theater again! But I should have known, movies just aren't what they used to be. Sigh.
