****SPOILERS****
First, I firmly believe The Matrix is one of the best films ever made with the following sequels being good but not on the same level of excellence. Prepare to have this new movie take every single thing you liked about the Matrix and throw it right out the window. I honestly don't understand how they were able to persuade any original cast member to return for this steaming pile of trash.
This movie starts out interesting with a 'modal' concept that Neo has developed for a video game he's fashioned after the Matrix. Ok cool. Humans and certain 'sentient' machines now coexist in harmony and have improved civilization greatly. Interesting sure but then it just crashes and burns. They continuously bombard you with flashbacks to the original movies and they spend a ridiculous amount of time in one scene describing how 'amazing' the original movies are. The 'revamped' Morpheus they replaced Laurence Fishburne with is just an insult to the original character and actor (an issue with writing and wardrobe not an insult to the new actor). Another personal peeve of mine is that this new 'Agent Smith' continuously refers to Neo as 'Thomas' and literally no one ever addresses it.
This movie tells you that Neo and Trinity were 'revived' by a new creator of the Matrix and that Neo and Trinity are 'connected' and have 'powers' when they're together. Neo has pretty much zero powers in the Matrix now and wouldn't you know it, Trinity is somehow able to gain these same powers the 'One' has and now takes over the show as the female hero while Neo stands back and does pretty much..... nothing. It was umbelieveably frustrating to watch Neo go through what I am gonna call a full blown neutering in this movie.
The Matrix should have been left alone. This could have been a good movie if it had been written better and executed very differently but they failed miserably. I honestly don't know how anyone who is a fan on the originals could watch this and like it.
