Listen,
Alien was an early Sci Fi-Horror drama thriller that used new creative techniques for showing alien life, cool sets and costume design. Every Single room and light shows pure wonder and strikes curiosity into the heart of the watcher as we uncover ancient technology blended with a futuristic space shuttle. All of this ruled by a mysterious presence of Merciless, violent aliens that torment the poor Researches that ignore there warning signal.
Ridley scott's pure genius in this film using lighting tricks and smoke to build tension and an eerie atmosphere while using techniques similar to spielberg and kubrick to create a truly terrifying antagonist. Sigourney weaver plays a female protagonist that isn't so clearly feminised and doesnt make me want to kill myself as she proves she's better than men.
This film is truly spectacular, and holds up incredibly as a film from the 70's. It was foundational for modern horror, sci fi and even films remotely similar to tropes created by this film.
People who hate on this film always use the same format of "Not enough Action", "Unrealistic" and "To Cliche".
Firstly, All film tropes have to start somewhere. The tropes and cliches you see in Alien are not Obvious bad directing filler that was stolen from other horror movies, As there were no other horror films with these cliche's. Alien was the most influential film for modern cinema and was a staple for creating such amazing tension filled scenes.
Secondly, Just because a film is not full of crappy CGI and special effects does not make it UNREALISTIC. Part of what makes Alien so great is its all practical and feels real, making it so creepy as we the audience feel the mystery that the characters feel.
Finally, the most silly claim of all is that the film has "not enough action". Apparenty the modern audience cant go 7mins without a fight or random chase scene. Im actually sad that people can't appreciate good films anymore because there is no action
that being said however, if you need action i would recommend Aliens
