Aside from all the artistic and technical aspects of films, which I can very much appreciate, the one thing that dominates for me is how they make me feel while watching and afterwards. Which is why I'm taking off 2 stars for this one. To say it's brutal is an understatement. At times very hard to watch and emotionally devastating. It's a rich stew of emotions that create deep mixed feelings. Do I feel better, entertained, enlightened, enriched, satisfied, appreciative for having watched it? No. I feel mostly sadness at the suffering that can't be undone, the anguish it caused me, and in the end that is what it accomplished. The artistic film aspects are very well done, which is why it is effective, but is that enough? Do you recommend a roller coaster to a friend if at the end they will feel sick? I wouldn't, and don't recommend this one either.
