Outstanding story.
It’s bleak, depressing, and wonderfully nonsensical but follows it’s own rules very much in the way those old folk tales the events of the story are based on can be.
It can feel a bit long, or even pointless however (without spoiling anything) that feeling of pointlessness is the point.
This one makes the list of movies that I’m a big fan of that I have no desire to see more than once.
All that said, it’s very niche in its plot, use of narrative choices, themes, and over all tone. It also suffers from poor marketing being promoted as though it is a fantasy action film rather than a medieval campfire horror story.
It’s not flawless, and sometimes I think this movie was made with a single audience member in mind.
