The dialog was unnatural and unbelievable, unlike in the original series. I think the decision not to let the writers edit last minute like they did on the show is what hurt the dialogue. Scenes between intimates using formal, even off-putting language ruined the emotional resonance that was there in the series.
The movie was a rehash of the season three, too. Same major beats, but with a slightly more satisfying yet wholly unbelievable outcome.
Finally, this is supposed to take place ten years after season three, yet all the characters (save Trixie) look like they’ve aged twenty to thirty years.
It was nice to be back in that world, but the experience did not carry the same sense of immersion as before.
