This is not only Olivier at his best (see also Wuthering Heights) and the gold standard by which all other versions pale in comparison, but is also the standard by which all other Shakespearean films are judged.

By far the best written and acted drama on television. It looks like a piece of high noir art, and has the dark energy of the best years of the original Law & Order. The new Clarice is a worthy successor of Jodie Foster, and Cudlitz proves once again to be a master chameleon of the highest form, going from drama to comedy to drama in his career seamlessly.
