Okay I'm just using Google reviews to vent. I truly hope that James Gunn and Peter Safran take the current DCU and burn it to the ground and reboot it. I collected Marvel and DC comics for a good 20 years until it got too expensive and the quality went down. I'm now older watching the "Canon" of what I grew up with changed and dumbed down over and over. Significant difference between the original version of these characters and the movie interpretation. Hawkman is now more like Tony stark, Black Adam is jumbled mess without any continuation to the other DCU movies and no exposition but what really aggravates me is Dr. Fate. One on the most interesting DC characters is just presented in a way that is dumbed down and poorly written. You are interested in seeing a character you admired as a child coming to the big screen and get him in an action movie without any substance. The 2016 cartoon network series justice league action is a better interpretation of these characters and better written than a big budget movie. Which in summary means that as a DC fan if I was on dessert island and could choose between the cartoon or the movie I'd choose the cartoon, and so would my child. No wonder no one went to see this movie

Sometimes I wonder if reviewers are watching the same movie as I am, have the same standards I have or they are just plants by studios. As far as WB they gave us some of the best movies and through HBO the best TV ever. Now I think they need to revamp their executive team and writers... Bottom line this movie should have never been made, someone in the executive suite at WB should have torn this script up along with a lot of the garbage WB has been churning out the last 5 years now (the Snyder cut which interestingly was rejected, Sabrina season 1a/b, and Westworld are the only standouts) but that's a whole dissertation in itself. The Matrix 1999 is one of the greatest movies of all time and that would be a 10 out of 10 in my book. The 2 sequels were progressively worse(maybe 6 and 4 out 10) but I would still consider them canon while retaining the stylish noir and action. The Animatrix was underrated and better than the sequels. I cannot consider this movie better than the first 2 sequels as some of the paid critics claim. The first movie was mind blowing stylish noir with hints of technology overload on society, Cyberpunk and transformation. The action set trends for years. The dialogue and acting from the main cast and supporting cast was Mile's above this movie. Tell me you didn't love the jackets and sunglasses. I even went out and bought surround sound for the lobby scene on DVD. It was the Wachowski's opus. This movie and it's fan service/self awareness(which is I think an inside jab by Lana Wachowski at the continuation of this IP by WB), the unmemorable new cast of supporting characters(who either can't act or do anything with the lines they are given) cheesy dialogue, the bland action sequences, the plot, the special effects are equivalent to a B rate movie. Disappointing and unmemorable entry. Nothing more. They want to continue with this IP fine but I'm not paying the ticket price. HBO max or rental only. A little harsh but soley disappointed in the quality of product WB is offering *** Edit note. I don't really write reviews but I really appreciate all the helpful votes. After returning to this after several days. The reason I wrote this review is because like I said I just don't get what system people use for "reviews." of all types. Think of the greatest movie of all time (ie. Godfather, OG matrix, etc.) those are 5* movies. This is not even in the next 2 lower levels . 5* star reviews should not be participation trophies. And then I read reviews that state there is a "hidden brilliance" or "deeper meaning" that most of the world doesn't get when watching this movie. I don't see it,and generally enjoy complex deep thought provoking movie/TV and would retort to those go back to the OG matrix “Do not try and bend the spoon, that’s impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth … There is no spoon. Then you’ll see that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.” Also The world's biggest matrix fans always seem to forget to mention the "promised" continuity from the MMO video game is completely disregarded (which I barely know but do know that it was thrown out). This movie seems like a typical money grab sequel and nothing more.

I never write reviews of a movie but what has happened over at HBO? For the studio that gave us Westworld, True Detective season 1, GOT, the original Sopranos and so much more the quality is just going from first class to mediocre at best. No spoilers but Many Saints is just a dull and winding fan service to a known IP. I felt it had no clear Arc and would have been better as a mini series or a chapter that develops into a sopranos prequel. Some good acting capturing the mannerisms of younger versions of the characters that us Sopranos fans know and love but overall just pointless, boring, confusing and seemingly no heart of the original series. Executive producers over at HBO need to be revamped.
