I've seen the old version of this in Cantonese and decided to watch this for the nostalgia...I vaguely remember that I liked the story very much. However, this his new version is very difficult for me to finish watching. I am on episode 31 out of 44, so I have seem most of the season already. I cannot convince myself to finish. I don't know if I should blame the director, or if the story was revised, or my different taste in dramas since childhood, but the plot is so fake and forced. The MC Jiang Xiaoyu-Er is self proclaimed smartest person in the world and supposedly grew up around the most evilest people in the world, yet he is basically the most innocent idiot out there; he repeatedly let go of people that tried to kill him multiple times, even those that he knew had a lot of blood on their hands. The antagonist's son somehow "slips" away several times when there was a "distraction". Yan Nantian let his nemesis go because he promised not to kill him 10 seconds ago; he was afraid that it would ruin his reputation. FFS...you let go of your brother's killer to save your own reputation...that is ridiculous. So much of the plot doesn't make any sense...not in the sense of reality. I know this is fiction, but it has to still follow basic reality check since they aren't magical beasts in a magic fantasy land. It's based on ancient China aesthetics and culture...which mean they should still relate to our common sense.
