I have not read the books and so watched this with no prior knowledge of the story or the authors work. As a TV series it was lovely great, an excellent cast, fabulous costumes and locations but what appeared to me to be a great story soon petered out by the end of episode four. I struggled to maintain interest as remaining episodes were more soft porn than plot! I’d started watching and enjoying believable historical fiction which had then somehow, disappointingly, turned into unbelievable historical fantasy, and what could have been a great ending was just Implausible.
