The first time I had read this book was in 1970 when I was doing a diploma education, it's very useful guidance for the arrangement of the class and formulation of programs for teaching lower secondary. The weekly teaching notes prepared by the teachers were generally in consonance with Piaget's cognitive theory learned in the teaching colleges. The outcomes of the teaching based on the theory were very satisfactory based on the class exercise and essays written by the students. we can see the level of maturity of thoughts and behavior of the lower secondary schools' students The students looked forward to coming to the class every next day and strived to excel in their learning.
In the present day, Piaget's theory probably needs to be updated. The cognitive capability of secondary school students these days is very advanced compared with the secondary school's students those days. this condition is understandable because the students have gone through many sophisticated exposures from very young ages. A two-year-old child today plays around with the computer and the internet. when they go to secondary school they might be able to do basic programming which their parent learned it in the university. As such going to the class is not exciting anymore to them. The knowledge thought in the class has already been learned at home via the internet.
Based on this reality once again I like to stress that Piaget's cognitive theory needs an urgent update in order to continue to be useful in the current environment.
