Let’s just cut to the chase, I binge listened this masterpiece on Audible this morning and will absolutely be purchasing the hardcopy for further reference—because the amount of valuable insights, takeaways, and prompts within this book will be all the better in tangible form. 🤎
I cried. I laughed. I felt perhaps, the deepest connection to another human through mere literature, ever. Not to mention a human of such notoriety.
Madison’s intention is evident behind every detail of this literary work, through each story, reflection, and resolve: To teach us all compassion. A lost art in the social media age. Most notably, she utilizes the medium of the traditional memoir, as a portal for her readers to experience a deepened sense of empathy. This in and of itself is both genius and a true reflection of her passionate pursuit of greater mental health awareness, and the humanizing of the famed. It’s brilliant and moving all at once.
This book serves as an invitation, to find the humanity in all people and to remember what makes us human ourselves. Despite the worldly perceptions of fame, beauty, or fortunate: There is an inner child, a past, and at times a war within all of us.
As a follower of Miss Beer since 2014, I can honestly say that my admiration of her has only deepened throughout the years. Her talent, impeccable fashion, and astonishing beauty of course are what drew me in many years ago. But at 25, I stayed for the person I saw below the surface. As a fellow “sensitive” person who has found myself in the pits of existentialism and societal confusion myself, I find Madison’s writing in both literature and song, to be so incredibly relatable. This girl deserves both intellectual and artistic praise of the highest form!
I applaud Madison for speaking to the harsh injustices imposed by the public towards those in the limelight. Privilege at a price, you could call it. But I also applaud Madison for speaking on the dichotomies of simply, being a beautiful young woman. The pain in her voice while narrating some of the most horrific recollections, really just makes one wonder: Why do so casually inflict these brutalities upon public figures? I mean, seriously. How have we lost touch with the reality that these are people too?
Beauty, Fame, and Wealth: While privileges in their own right, seem to be prerequisites for the disdain, lack of empathy, and dehumanization by those perceiving you.
We live in a society of “haves” and “have nots”, of followed and followers, performers and consumers: But too often do those on the “consuming” end forget the fact that those “performing” are LITERAL human beings.
Madison Beer, at just 24 years old, might just be one of the few people who have brought attention to that dynamic, and who has made efforts to bridge the gap. Through all of the hellish things this girl as endured, it is astonishing the lengths she goes to connect with fans, speak vulnerably, and not to mention: Continue to create. Many would have given up. 10/10, round of applause, the works. This book is phenomenal.
