Shalese Scott – Google

This movie quite literally became white noise in the background. I had no qualms about getting things done around the house while it was playing because it took way too much effort to try and figure out where they were going with one plot before an entirely different plot started. Nothing fluidly tied together or wrapped up. Just when you thought it would start getting good the storyline died very anticlimactically. I suppose if I were high I would’ve found this to be really philosophical. But in my sober state I just felt they were trying way too hard to be artistic and deep.

I loved the ‘96 version and had no idea what to expect with this one. I was thrilled it was different enough to keep my interest and wasn’t trying to compete with 90’s movie. That one is a classic that doesn’t need a redo. This one was original and beautiful. The songs, the choreography, the story telling… I loved it all. It was dark, emotional, inspiring and bright all in one. The kids were phenomenal actors and performers. It was perfect.

It had some excellent fight scenes..... a never ending supply. And that’s it. The hero (Wahlberg) was unlikeable. The nemesis was more enjoyable than he was. Character development was so poor that when someone died I felt nothing. There was no attachment to anyone. It was a 2 hour fight scene without an ending. If you watch movies for blood, fights and explosions without needing a good plot you’ll love it.
