When it works, it's alright... although a bit slow.
Most of my gamer friends refuse to play it for numerous reasons (I'll keep this review about my own experiences).
Unfortunately, this game lacks much!
It's exactly my kind of game, but the execution is pitiful.
It takes a very long time to stock the ship with supplies (unless spending your gold).
Players will open fire without cause (greedy/cowardly), making Tall Tales and other story content very costly on time.
No point even attempting sunken shrines, as will be sunk when in the shrine.
If bored and just want to shoot other ships, or grief/spawn-camp players, then this is the game for you - If you can get it to actually run snoothly.
Recent bugs include;
- Server lag, PvP causes freezing.
- Respawning to ship typically blackscreens you until you're sunk.
- Megladons are very broken (pathfinding needs serious attention).
- Skeleton ships (sloops and galleons) can trigger errors that will endure for the rest of your session (lag being the least of it).
- Audio bugs out, resulting in a loud skipping noise (unable to continue playing with audio, as the game does not recover).
- Tall Tale (Fate/Morningstar) cancelled itself after sailing through a storm, leaving me to redo the majority of the grind afresh.
- Player sloops appear out of nowhere, then manage to completely sink you in 4 shots (including collapsing the mast).
- LB (Radial Menu) button decided to not work, meaning I had to reload the game (I am writing this review whilst waiting for the game to reload because of this bug).
Previous bugs include;
- My ship wheel glitched, where it rapidly spun, leaving me unable to steer the ship.
- Audio bugged out (also experienced recently).
- Frozen on deck after being picked up and dropped by a Kracken (on a 4x crew galleon).
This game has a lot of potential, but is ultimately a BROKEN TOY.
I play on Xbox One X, with slow internet (20mbps+1mbps), wired connections (incl. controller).
Support suggests that I uninstall the game completely, unlink my xbox account from console, hard reset everything, then reinstall and link everything afresh.
Installing the game alone will chew up a whole day due to the file size/internet service.
I am more likely to invest my time pursuing full refunds for the game itself, and the cosmetics purchased in-game, and just not bother trying to play it.
The game has become unplayable since my first season (their changes have created the issues. I am using the same internet service and equipment).
Sometimes a server can be smooth, but something (not yet identified) happens which completely ruins the gaming experience.
Sometimes it's a server-merge, sometimes a skeleton ship spawn, sometimes just running into certain player ships.
Losing patience with it.
If I must uninstall it to fix the problems, then I will just request the refunds and play other games.
I am not the only person experiencing these issues.
