Just finished the show and I think it was a great spin on the original story. Brad and Angela can't be upstaged, but this series took on a life of its own with enough similarities to the original that it pulled me in. I could sense the chemistry between the two lead actors. I feel like other reviewers who wrote about their chemistry didn't feel it because the Smith's aren't the dreamy icons that people crush over. In the series, Mr. and Mrs. Smith fell like real people in the real world. They are still good looking! In this series, Mr. And Mrs. Smith could literally be your neighbors. That's how relatable they are. There's a scene where Mrs. Smith accidentally farts in her sleep and jumps up acting like the sound was something to be checked out. It was hilarious! Later, Mr. Smith tells her to be free and fart in front of him and reveals that he knew about the first incident but didn't want to embarrass her. These little comedic/semi romantic parts were amazing. It has that new relationship vibe in between spy work. It gets more intense with each episode.
The last episode is a cliff hanger! If they create a second season, I'll definitely watch it to see where the story goes.
Reason for 4 stars:
What I would agree on are the fighting scenes not being that great. They could do better training for those action shots.
It also didn't feel realistic when high profile situations happened and the couple not be on the news everywhere. There were witnesses with phones out in some of those scenes. It would have felt more realistic if hihi intercepted and put out fake profiles of suspects in order to throw off the general public or even make the Smith's relocate when things got crazy.
Also, how did the agency not be more strict about John being in contact with his mom?
Why create a situation where Smith's fall in love and could compromise the agency? I wish hihi explained the analytics for that. And why weren't they told that once they join, they can never leave?
Season 2 could definitely be polished and hopefully tie up loose ends.
