Incredible how bad the pacing was, yet even more incredible was how boring this movie turned out to be. The political preaching dragged on and on.
It didnโt surprise me that marketing flailed about, attempting to dance around the true nature of the film, only to ultimately fail (much like the revolutionary spurts ingrained in most of the characters) to accomplish anything.
In spite of the on the nose delivery, the movie seemingly forgot to convey anything remotely profound or of any substance. Easily could have cut it an hour shorter, it dragged on for HOURS...
Leo is washed up. Penn is unwatchable and (much like the critics of our era) smelling his own farts. Worst ensemble in PTAโs lengthy filmography of bouquets.
The film had no depth, the characters went nowhere. I didnโt care about any of them. They had no emotion. Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and Hard Eight are masterpiecesโit seems like PTA hasnโt made a strong film in decades. Lost a lot of respect for him tonight. Hours I will never get back. Waste of $25. Almost left several times, wish I had.
