This film is interesting in that it explores failed motherhood which is hardly ever (maybe never) shown from the mother's perspective. Uncomfortable subject matter made palatable by the beautiful setting. If there was a moral to the story it's that we are all awful people so let's cut each other some slack. (I'm being facetious.)
