Absolute calamity of a game. The patches don't change anything at all. They even make it worse.
1. Player switching : The player switching mechanism has to have been designed by a 10yr old because there is absolutely no logic behind it. It is like playing the lottery meaning you never know on who it's going to land. And you have to play competitive gameplay and defend with a mechanism which does not have a recognised pattern. It is so random but hey, let's promote mediocrity.
2. Player movement off the ball : It looks like EA Sports, while designing the movements of the other 9 players you are not controlling, take examples from movement of players in Amateur leagues. Their movement are 10 IQ movements that when you dissect and analyse are truly a shame to football, if real football would have this kind of movement on a football pitch.
3. Fouls and Red Cards : Sometimes, red cards will be popping out of the referee's pocket for a foul that, in other situations, the exact same foul will get you a yellow card. Fouls are random, sometimes you will get a foul sometimes not. And this is the brilliance of EA Sports.
4. Now the most interesting part. SCRIPTING AND DDA ( Dynamic Difficulty Adjustment ).
You already know if you play Ultimate Team that there are modes in friendlies that allow you to get a 'boost'. Basically, the gameplay is boosted in a way where you can go faster, your passes are better, even your shooting gets better. Now EA Sports have ask for a patent for DDA in 2016 and have been granted this patent in 2018. And it is since Fifa 20 ( released in 2019 ) that scripting starting showing it's ugly face in the gameplay. Strange coincidence, isn't it ? There are countless examples of scripting in Fifa 22 online and you can even get videos on youtube that support this. Last year, EA Sports were sued by 3 persons, who claimed that the scripting was designed to frustrate the players so that they would go to the store and buy packs with the in-game currencies, or spend real money to buy the currencies. This is a very plausible argument as EA Sports is one of the companies who has the most disregard for their customers and users of their products. Ironic isn't it ? The people making them money by buying their products are the ones who are the most at loss when doing so. In this lawsuit and while in court, EA Sports was forced to reveal that they indeed use DDA, that is AI to adjust the difficulty of a game, even though some time back, they said that they have never used DDA in their games. The reason they claimed was so that people playing the game do not get bored while doing so. Again, such a heroic mentality from EA Sports.
EA Sports have had the monopoly of football gaming for the past 6-7 years. Along with that, they have allowed themselves to do whatever they want with their game, completely disregarding their community, some of them playing the game for 10+ years. The funny thing is since Fifa 19, the game released every year has become worse and worse. Last year, Fifa 21 had a rating of 0.8/10 on metacritic.
DH Tekkz, the Fifa 19 FUT Champions Cup Winner, at a Fifa 20 tournament claimed : " Every game is 50-50 on Fifa 20. Anyone can win because the game is so unrewarding and no one enjoys playing it but, you know, we're here." This was at a live event just before a semi final.
For someone loving football, I can honestly say, I am ashamed that the most recognised football game in the world, is of such a low standard and such mediocrity.
