I watched the trailer and thought it looked intriguing, but the dialogue is universally terrible. A) people just don't talk to one another like that B) if you have to explain everything to the point of exhaustion, just use a narrator, it's stupid, but at least the characters wouldn't have to talk like toddlers just so a hard of thinking audience could keep up. I didn't finish the first episode. Life is precious.

I'll Dock it one star because I think they could have milked another 10-15 minutes of the goat/goose battle at the start, they blew most of the effects and make-up budget on those guys. It gets at least three stars for using actors with Northern accents, after all it is a South Western story by an unknown North Western writer. The extra star goes for the tongue in cheek way there are moments of seriousness cut across by completely flat hilarious responses or events. If you don't enjoy it for these reasons there is nothing for you here, move on.

This film is devastating and excellently acted. It is not an action film, it is a character portrait of two formerly close friends, one of whom has already hardened his heart for the war, the other is sweet and innocent and open. The inability of the relationship to continue under the circumstances is excellently realised. As devastating as The Kite Runner in this aspect.

I did Geology at A-level and it just hurts too much to see the world destroyed (from within by "mutant" neutrinos, lol) in such a ludicrous, physics defying way. The best selling point is that this is a 12, so you can face-palm with your kids. It's spectacular, but also terribly badly scripted and clichéd. But quite a cast! It's always cute in these films to see people jubilant at surviving the extinction level event (that magically goes away after a few days) and not expecting the next few years to be a bit Cormack Mccarthy.
