It’s a shame that some people are going out of their way to try and get Acolyte cancelled by giving it poor ratings. Most of them are pretty easy to spot because they sound like Reddit thread rants and talk about episodes that weren’t airing when their comments were posted. I’m a Star Wars fan that tends to stay out of online spaces because of how many fans act when a new project is released. But I’m tired of seeing projects cancelled or altered in weird ways because some people can’t accept anything outside episodes 1-6, so I decided to share my opinion. I hope it helps someone decide.
The theme of this show seems to be perspective and how our individual perspectives are often incorrect or not complete. This pertained to interpretations of the force, past events, and many of the personalities we’re introduced to. You think you have a character figured out but then learn their history or see them act in a way that you didn’t expect bc your perspective was limited. And it all centered around a specific even that each character views differently even though practically all of them are wrong. It also brings up different questions and philosophies around the force which is sorely needed. It’s nice to have a solid definition of what the force is understood to be, but that doesn’t mean characters and groups can’t question it themselves or even find alternate uses for it that were previously unexplored.
I loved the dialogue because it took inspiration from episodes 1-6, campy and a little stilted, something I always loved about the original movies bc it feels like they’ve had no contact with earth. The set pieces make the worlds we see feel lived in, much better that that odd phase where everything was so… clean. The action is more subtle which might anger people who want to see knock out brawls, but the scenes do fit well with the characters and how they would approach different situations. Speaking of which, we get a whole new cast of original characters that are slowly fleshed out which is always interesting. I often saw fans complain about getting the same characters all the time so to now hear them complain about original characters is just ridiculous. Do it think it’s perfect? Nothing is but I had a lot of fun watching so the flaws haven’t stood out as of yet. I definitely want to see where the story goes. Hoping for a season 2!
