I grew up watching the animated series when it was airing on nickelodeon and I was fortunate enough to be at the perfect age when I watched it for the first time. So the animated series holds a special place in my heart. That being said, I went into the live action series wanting to love it and wanting to believe they could do it. But unfortunately, I understand why the original creators of the show left. They completely butchered the storyline…they somehow made 8 episodes, that are about an hour each, feel rushed. The last 4 episodes are the ones in particular that are extremely disappointing and honestly making me question if the creators for Netflix just took the cliff notes of the entire animated series with the way the story is woven together. The rewritten dialogue is just as bad and the actors saying them are horrible. The two that come to mind are zhao and roku. Zhao’s actor I feel was a miscast and Roku was a combination of the actor and what the new creators did to him….I want give spoilers on how he’s introduced but it’ll leave you wondering, “what the actual F uck was that??? What made the animated series so great where the characters and their chemistry and the actors seem to have no chemistry with one another. The only ones that seem to have decent amount of chemistry are the actors that played iroh and zuko. Speaking of Zuko, we all know his character development is hands down the best we have ever seen, and they completely butchered that as well. I could literally go on and on with what I hated and felt they completely butchered. After watching this, I hope this is the only season we get. Cause I don’t want to see another character like Toph get ruined as well.
