I started reading on my trip to Charleston. I didn't finish until I got home. I am ashamed and regretful that I didn't know more of the history of Charleston while I was there. As I was reading I jumped back and forth to research on Denmark Vesey. Had I known all this before, I would have visited more of the mentioned historical places. Sadly my school history never went into detail of the lives and horror of slavery. This book opened my eyes on several levels. You must read after the book is done, about the author and the events that happened for her to go back and continue her story. Thank you. Great read! I am looking forward to reading more work from Joy Jordan Lake.
