I love this franchise, and I’ll be honest I was sorely disappointed by Jigsaw because of the lack of meaningful connection to the first seven movies, so going into this I had a little hope that it would ultimately redeem itself but again I was left disappointed. It was awful, and if I could give less than one star I would.
Not only was the acting bad, but there was literally no one of the main cast for the original movies in this, and the tape recordings made me want to cry with how stiff and awful they sounded. It really gave me the feel of “middle schooler reading off of a notecard for a presentation”.
I also understand that this was a copycat killer to John Kramer, so things would be different, but one of the staples of the entire franchise is that the victims are given the choice of “live or die” and that was glaringly absent here. Like some other reviews said, this was just a long, roundabout way of killing someone cold blood, because there was nothing winnable about these “games”. I was frustrated the entire movie because of this.
Maybe a little harsh of me to say, but as far as I’m concerned, Saw ended with movie 7—Saw: The Final Chapter.
