The second installment of Netflix’s anthology Horror series The Haunting of Bly Manor dropped this weekend and is nothing short of amazing or should I say “Perfectly Splendid” (you will get the reference once you watch the show).
This new addition to The Haunting anthology is not your modern horror story or even akin to its predecessor The Haunting of Hill House. The Haunting of Bly Manor is a very beautifully written love story between ghosts.
The Haunting of Bly Manor is a great story with a fewer scares. All the Hill House fans will be disappointed as Bly Manor has more of Gothic shades than in your face scares. This show mainly focuses on character development and each backstory is carefully crafted. You will see a bunch of familiar faces from Hill house which will give you a nostalgic vibe. Both the children Miles and Flora are extremely sweet and awfully creepy at the same time.
Verdict: Bly Manor is less scary than Hill House, with imagery that doesn't quite match the memorable Bent Neck Lady. But Bly Manor's jumpscares have an extra kick of psychological trauma although comparisons arise between them both stories and genres are miles apart and splendid in their own way.
POSITIVES: Rich character development, Memorable love story and Captivating performances
NEGATIVES: Lacks in your face horror scares, Slow narration and no emotional depth
RATING: 3.5/5
