This is the first horror film I've seen that so clearly defines the value of life way way beyond surviving it physically. Connection to the more meaningful things in life were more important to her than escaping the big bad monsters. The other humans were also....human.... in the best way possible. This will not go over well with the cynics among us, unfortunately for them.
