Didn't catch this series during its original run. Caught it online (Youtube) and found copies on DVD. Robb Thomas' concept had the potential or material for a long series, but alas it only ran one season.
The chemistry and humor between the principal actors struck a wonderful balance. And Piven's on camera presence and line delivery made this work. Paula Marshall's Clare was an interesting blend of both approachable and closed off at the same time. She managed to pull that off and was a good anchor or counter point to Piven's Cupid/Trevor Hale.
I did see the attempted remake and I just didn't think they had that chemistry to recreate what the origin had. Only thing comparable to it is Moonlighting (from 10 years earlier) with Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd. If you get the chance to view Cupid, (and I'm not sure why it's not available for purchase anywhere) do so.

The characters are both quirky at times, but real. Thought the dialogue was true as well. And it doesn't end with a totally feel good ending, but mixed.
Overall, I'd recommend this film. I thought Piven and De Falco were interesting casting choices, but not devoid of chemistry.
