This movie is not for many, but unlike the abomination that is Pan, this movie provided a wonderful backstory into the lore of Peter Pan. A must watch for those who enjoy Lord of the Flies. This is NOT, I repeat NOT a kids movie. 14+ in my opinion. The characters, the costumes, the cinematography... everything is so wonderful. Itโs a dark movie, but itโs also light in a way, like a yin-yang. Itโs actually not slow paced as some say it is- if you really dig deep, watch the movie in its fullest, itโs an amazing piece of film. Iโm surprised it didnโt get more recognition. When reading the original book of Peter Pan, like many old but classic tales (cinderella, Alice in wonderland etc.) it actually has some pretty dark themes to it. This movie takes an adult spin on the story, and itโs done perfectly. Take a movie like the lighthouse- itโs weird, creepy, and while itโs fame proceeds this film many found it a little too weird and twisted, same with Midsommar. This is a movie that provided a middle ground: a film thatโs twisted but not in an unsettling way. The narrative, the lore, the story, everything twists and spins into a beautiful film that presents childhood in a fantastical yet realistic, eery yet joyful, light but dark way. Loved it.
