I wish the Bond franchise film makers would read some of these reviews. I wonder what Ian Fleming would have thought of this film? I get that modern film makers want to please everyone, but Bond was never designed to do that. Daniel Craig is a great actor and worthy Bond, Rami Malek is a great villain, but this film felt at times that Freddie Mercury had kidnapped Bonds daughter and her cuddly toy was in danger of being lost forever! I was waiting for Malek to invite Bond around to meet his Mum and have tea.
Please bring back Bond humour, a middle aged villain with a large stomach, exotic locations, much less darkness, the NATO watch strap and a more classic Bond. Bond was designed to be classically British and unapologetic, as challenging as that might sound. I used to leave the cinema uplifted and often laughing after watching a Bond movie along with everyone else. I guess Connery and Moore would maybe find this film funny, but not in a good way.
I've never seen so many dejected folks leaving the cinema after this one. Maybe that was the intended result. Somehow, I don't think Ian Fleming would want this for his character, I get that things need to be changed up, but this was too far away from what Bond is actually about. And that doesn't mean an outdated sexist that just wants to blow everything up!
I don't get why Bond has morphed into some kind of emotional jellyfish in this one and why there had to be some kind of 'send off' for the main character! Maybe this is an ac-tor thing. Move on.
PLEASE Bond franchise, don't make another like this. There is no need.
A two star turkey. The Italian scenes worth the extra star.
